'The future Inspiring Kids Preserve is a 108-acre property conserved by Capitol Land Trust on Henderson Inlet. The property conserves over one mile of Puget Sound shoreline, freshwater wetlands, a salt marsh, and upland and streamside forests. With such incredible variation in the types of habitats present here, it’s not surprising that there are also many animals living here, too! Signs of beavers were first noticed in April 2021 by Capitol Land Trust volunteer Tom Terry, who immediately set up a wildlife camera. This video is the result of nearly a year of filming the same spot. 20 different species of mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles were documented within the small area. This small area is part of a larger area of land that Capitol Land Trust and our partners started environmental restoration on in 2018. The goal of the restoration project? Enhance wetland habitat because of its value to people and wildlife. Not only does Inspiring Kids Preserve provide critical habitat for wildlife, one day it will be a go-to place for outdoor learning, exploration, and relaxation! Our vision for Inspiring Kids Preserve is to supplement the natural features of the land with walking trails, benches, nature play spaces, and more so that our community can visit and find refuge from the stresses of daily life and feel the benefits of being outdoors.
