'19 KIDS AND COUNTING': ARE THE DUGGARS MAKING THING THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BEFORE MARRIAGE?

Hold Up, Are the Duggars Allowed to FaceTime Before They’re Married? When it comes to courting, the Duggar have some pretty strict rules that do not even allow private text messages, but what about FaceTime? In the Duggar family, most children who are ready to start dating have begun to see someone relatively close, be it a family friend such as Austin Forsyth or Kendra Caldwell or someone who lived a short drive away for travel weekend. (We're looking at you, Ben Seewald.) But what happens when a couple does not live so close before they get hooked, like Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard? How do they keep in touch long enough to start courting from two very different places? Well, apparently, they use FaceTime and Skype. But, like text messages, it's not exactly a game for everyone. The fact that they do not go out to eat and bring a companion (or a few) does not mean they are not under supervision. After all, the Duggar have cell phones, but they come with some very strict rules about their use. The phones are basically simple to allow basic needs such as phone calls, text messages, email and maps. There is no Internet access through Safari or anything like that. "Young men would have a harder time seeing bad things, so what we've done with smartphones is that ... we've blocked Safari and any Internet search, and then we just had basic applications." Jim Bob Duggar shared an interview with Covenant Eyes Radio. But we've seen them use FaceTime, which seems like it could lead to a serious temptation, what's the problem? Can the Duggars write and call while courting? When it comes to texting at Duggar's house, there are always people around. When Ben and Jessa Duggar started sending text messages, they even included their parents in the group chat so they could keep an eye on things. Telephone conversations, however, come with a little more privacy. "The day that Ben and I started courting, we began our tradition of calling us every night," Jessa shared about courting in Growing Up Duggar. "These calls were not 'accompanied', they were private only between the two of us." Technically, this is supposed to be against the rules, so the Seewalds simply invented their own courtship rules to follow, as did Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo? While courting, the Dillards relied mainly on Skype to help them get to know each other and see them through distance, but they were not given the same privacy. In fact, there were even moments in the program where we saw Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar sitting there watching them. Talk about uncomfortable. But it makes a lot of sense to monitor your video calls when you're not even allowed to hold hands or hold each other for more than 20 seconds.
