'Foods to be taken when you have kidney stones. You have to have more of lemon juice. Citrate in lemon prevents stone formation. So taking lemons and citrate foods are beneficial. You should have plenty of water so that the color of the urine is light yellow, not dark yellow. Dark yellow means your body is dehydrated. So take more water. You can take ginger ale, lemon sodas to keep your body hydrated. Taking too much tea and coffee is not good, limit it to 1 – 2 cups a day. High fat foods and high protein rich foods like animal protein should be avoided. You can take lean protein and eggs. You should avoid calcium rich and Vitamin D rich foods like milk and milk products, tofu, oyster etc. Oxalate containing foods should be avoided like grapes, strawberry, currants and some vegetables like leeks, beets, sweet potato should be avoided.
