'HOW TO PERFORM A DUMBBELL HAMMER CURL In this video, learn how to correctly perform the dumbbell hammer curl exercise in under 60 seconds. See how to perform this bicep exercise accurately, and understand the typical mistakes people make so you can avoid them. The difference between this and the barbell bicep curl (example) would be the hand positioning. For this you will adopt a neutral grip (knuckles facing left and right) and hold the dumbbells straight by your sides. The best way to perform this exercise is think about pinning your elbows to your sides, as if you have a rolled-up towel underneath both arm puts/ in line with your elbows. If you lift the dumbbells too high or flare your elbows out too much - the towel falls – thus outlining that you’re cheating to complete the movement. Lift the dumbbells up until you get maximum contraction in the biceps (you can’t squeeze it anymore), without moving your elbows from by your sides. Tempo is key for this exercise, we would advise 3-4 seconds up, squeeze for 1 second and lower in 3-4 seconds to get best results.
